The Association was formed by a group of residents in 1962. WWRA sponsored Independent Councillors have represented Clewer North Ward on the Borough Council since 1987.
Membership of the WWRA is on a household basis and is open to all residents of Clewer Wards (North, East and South) and Park Ward, in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, that lie to the west of the main trunk route, A332/B3173/ B3022, that link Junction 6 on the M4 with LegoLand.
We have a membership of over 1000, each household contributing £3 annually. Our committee of elected members and the Ward Councillors meets regularly.
An Annual General Meeting, followed by wine and cheese, is held every March in Homer School. Special meetings are called as necessary to consult members on major local issues, such as major planning matters.
Our newsletter, the West Wind, is delivered to members three times a year and we are developing our communications using the web, e-mail and social media. There are about 30 volunteers who collect annual subscriptions and deliver the West Wind.
Aims Of The WWRA
- To safeguard, promote and represent the interests of the resident members in the Association’s area.
- To promote the just, efficient and economical governance of West Windsor.
- To render assistance whenever possible, in all matters, for the benefit of the resident members in the Association’s area collectively and individually.
How We Work
We have direct involvement in local government through our three Independent Councillors.
Members of our committee scrutinise any proposals relating to housing, transport, leisure and the environment which could impact local residents.
With the strength of our membership, WWRA is recognised as an influential community partner. Whenever there are public consultations on matters such as aircraft noise, park and ride, open spaces etc. we ensure our members’ views are heard.
We like to nip potential problems in the bud but, if any individual or group of members has a particular concern, such as a local planning application, they can get help from the Independent Councillors or a committee member. Addresses and telephone numbers are listed in West Wind.
